Since 1993, students from around the world have gathered annually at The International Stunt School in Seattle, WA to learn the basic skills of the stunt performing industry: fight choreography, high falls, fire burns, wire work, car chases.
Often, to be a stunt performer is to live in the periphery of a scene’s narrative: anonymously stepping in for the physical performances that even the most A-list Hollywood actors are unable to deliver.
I’ve always been enamored by artists whose work is at its best when it’s invisible. In a society where “Main Character Syndrome” runs rampant, I wanted to spend time in a place where it was most important to focus on being an integral part of the background.
Within the stunt industry, successful performers are referred to as “back-of-the-head-famous.”
